Design Your Life With 3 Important Questions
As the year draws to a close, I’ve been reflecting on what I want more of in life and how I can take steps to shape my future intentionally. It’s a time for journaling, planning, and, most importantly, dreaming. Today, I’d love to share three pivotal questions that can help you design a life you truly love.
These come from Vishen, the founder of Mindvalley, an app I hold close to my heart. His approach is simple yet profound: instead of letting life simply happen to us, we can take control and live with purpose. Here’s how.
The Power of Intentional Living
I truly believe that every decision we make, every “yes” and “no,” and every feeling we nurture or release, shapes the trajectory of our lives. The more aligned we are with what feels good and true for us, the closer we get to living a life by design.
This concept resonates deeply with me because I’ve been on both sides. I’ve known the depths of anxiety and unhappiness, but I’ve also experienced the joy of building a life that reflects my values and desires. It’s not perfect—there are still self-doubts and hurdles—but the journey is empowering.
This is why, each year, I sit down to plan my Best Year Yet. It’s a beautiful practice that brings clarity and motivation, and it’s something I encourage everyone to try.
Three Questions to Redesign Your Life
Vishen’s three questions are designed to help you uncover what truly matters to you. The key? Don’t overthink your answers. Let them flow without worrying about the “how.”
- What do you want to experience?
Think about the moments and feelings that light you up. What do you want more of? - How do you want to learn/grow?
Growth is a lifelong journey. What skills, knowledge, or inner qualities do you want to cultivate? - How do you want to contribute to the world?
We all have something unique to offer. How do you want to give back, inspire others, or share your creativity?
Write down your answers, and then—here’s the magic—ask yourself “why” for each one. This probing helps you uncover the deeper motivations behind your goals, which can sometimes lead you to unexpected revelations.
The True Desire Beneath the Goal
Here’s an example Vishen shared that I found incredibly insightful. A person wanted to learn speed typing but, after asking “why” repeatedly, they discovered their true goal was to spend time with an ailing parent who is living in another location. This realisation shifted their entire focus, allowing them to pursue what truly mattered.
This exercise is a reminder that our first answers often scratch the surface. Digging deeper can reveal what our hearts genuinely crave.
A New Year, A New Chapter
As I wrap up this year, I feel immense gratitude for the growth, challenges, and achievements that have shaped it. It’s been a phenomenal year for United ArtSpace, and I’m thrilled about the plans we have for the future. From live podcasts to inspiring events—both online and in person—there’s so much goodness ahead.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us, shared our work, or simply been part of this journey. Your encouragement fuels our passion and allows us to dream bigger.
So, here’s to designing lives that feel fulfilling and aligned. Take a moment to reflect on the three questions and see where they lead you. Wishing you a joyful end to the year, and I’ll see you in the next chapter.
