Tell US about you and your art
I’m a mum to two lovely girls, living with my husband in Leicester, UK. I used to be a sales rep, but now I’m an artist, painting portraits based on unspoken thoughts.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR BIGGEST LESSON?
A much better understanding of how to make things happen, with a good steering on what the best option is when art opportunities come up.
What was life like before you found THE UNITED ARTSPACE HUB?
I was on maternity leave, and knew I couldn’t go back to my job. I’d started painting and drawing again, and knew I wanted to try and make a living selling my art – it had been a dream for years – but I just didn’t know how to make it work. I needed guidance from someone who knew. I didn’t know any other artists or people in the art world.
What have you found most useful during your time in the Hub?
The 7 keys is number one for sure, but getting clear on my dreams and allowing myself to think big was a big one too. I needed Michelle to encourage this, because I fear thinking that way, in case it doesn’t happen, and I’m just left feeling disappointed. But Michelle taught me how to plan and taking practical steps helps it feel like maybe it could happen…
Where are you now compared to when you joined?
Much more informed as an artist. My art is clearer (since understanding the why) mindset still wavers but now I know what to do if negative thoughts start pestering me.
What has this made possible for you?
Confidence in taking the right steps has brought sales, commissions, visibility, and yes belief in my art, that it is good enough. It’s always a wonder when you’re starting, to know if you should work on improving your work first before putting it out there. Of course you constantly seek to learn and get better, but to know I can put it out there right now and get results, is massive for me.
Did you have any hesitations about joining The Hub?
No, I was really excited!
Do you have a message for anyone thinking of joining us?
ALL of your art questions will be answered, and you’ll learn the right choices to make to help you get where you want to be. Honestly, just do it, it’ll save you years of trial and error.
If you could send advice back to yourself 3 years ago, what would you tell yourself?
Everything works out fantastically, you become an artist, life is less stressful and you finally love what you do
