Don’t Change For a Few, Change For You
Have you ever felt overwhelmed by advice? As artists, everyone has an opinion: change your colours, scale your work differently, sell this way not that way. It’s exhausting. And if you’re not careful, you lose sight of what you wanted in the first place.
A Lesson from My Nan
On what would have been my nan’s 91st birthday, I thought about how she lived. Nanny Dot didn’t bend to please anyone. She knew who she was and she stuck to it. That’s the kind of courage we need in our creative lives too.
Choosing What Feels Right
I’ve been told my ideas wouldn’t work more times than I can count. Publishing a book in August? Terrible idea, apparently. But I did it because it felt right for me. And I’ve never regretted following that instinct.
Navigating the Opinions
There will always be new platforms, new trends, new “must-dos”. Sometimes they’re worth trying, but only if they feel aligned. Copying others or chasing every shiny object rarely leads to fulfilment.
Trust Yourself
At its core, creativity is about doing what brings you joy. If you create from your heart, there’s no wrong path. The world will always have opinions, but the only voice that really matters is your own.
