Get Clear On What You Want in 2025
As another year draws to a close, it’s natural to reflect on what’s been and ponder what’s next. For me, this time of year carries a strong sense of closure and possibility—new chapters waiting to be written. It’s a moment to pause, to ask big questions, and to listen for the answers.
Starting Fresh: The Power of a New Beginning
On my back, I have a Thai symbol tattoo. It represents a “full stop, new beginning.” This concept resonates deeply with me, particularly in December, as I begin contemplating what I truly want for the year ahead. Sometimes, clarity comes easily. For instance, at the start of 2024, I was unwavering in my goal: to write a book. That singular focus carried me through the year.
But not every year is so clear. There have been moments in my life when I felt utterly lost, unsure of my purpose. I longed for someone to show me the way, to reveal what I was meant to do. If you’ve ever felt stuck—whether in your art, career, or life in general—you’re not alone. It’s a frustrating place to be, but it’s also where reflection begins.
Questions to Ponder
At this time of year, I like to gently explore questions that guide my reflection:
- What do I want to leave behind in 2024?
- What do I want to carry forward into 2025?
These questions may not have immediate answers, and that’s okay. The act of asking them is enough to start the process. I find it helpful to journal, revisit old notes, or even speak aloud to a Dictaphone. Reflecting on past thoughts and feelings often provides surprising insights.
Vision Boarding: A Visual Journey
This year, I created my vision board earlier than usual, thanks to a brilliant workshop by Chisomo in our United Art Space Hub membership. It was such a joy to follow along as a learner and create my board during a co-working session.
I started with a mind map, organising my thoughts into four key areas: home life, work, art, and finances. From there, I translated those ideas into visuals—images that evoke the feelings and goals I want to pursue. For me, freedom is a recurring theme, so I always include imagery that represents my version of that.
A vision board doesn’t have to be elaborate. It can be as simple as a single image or a few affirmations. The key is creating something meaningful to you, something that will remind you of what matters most throughout the year.
The Importance of Reconnecting
It’s easy to set intentions in January and lose sight of them as the year unfolds. Life has a way of taking over. That’s why I love having a vision board on my shelf. I don’t look at it every day, but when I do, it grounds me. It brings me back to the heart of what I value.
Stripping back the noise of the world often reveals that what truly matters is simpler than we think. For me, it’s family, creative freedom, and living with purpose. What is it for you?
Share Your Thoughts
I encourage you to reflect, journal, or talk it through with a friend. What do you want to leave behind? What do you want to carry forward? Let me know on social media—I’d love to hear what comes up for you.
Take care, my friends, and here’s to a 2025 filled with clarity and joy.
