How Do I Sell My Art?
How to Sell Your Art: Why the Right Questions Matter
“How do I sell my art?” It’s a question I’ve been asked countless times, and every time it comes up, I find myself pausing. The question is so broad that it’s nearly impossible to answer without digging deeper. It’s like asking, “How do I travel?” The answer depends entirely on where you want to go, how you want to get there, and what you hope to experience along the way.
Start with the Right Questions
When it comes to selling art, the first step isn’t to figure out how to sell. Instead, it’s about asking the right questions that will lead you to the answers you need. The process of selling art is nuanced and highly individual. What works for one artist may not work for another, so you have to begin by defining your own unique path.
Understanding Your Work and Your Audience
Start by asking yourself: What am I selling? Understanding the essence of your work is crucial. Your art isn’t just a product; it’s a piece of you, a manifestation of your creativity, vision, and emotions. Ask yourself why you’re selling it. What drives you? Is it the desire to share your vision with the world, to make a living from your passion, or something else entirely?
Next, consider who your art is for. Who is the audience that will connect with your work on a deeper level? These questions are vital because they help you shift from a vague goal of “selling” to a more focused objective: connecting your work with the right people.
Shifting the Focus: From Selling to Connecting
Once you’ve identified your audience, the question of selling evolves. It becomes, “How do I get my work in front of the people who will appreciate and resonate with it?” This shift in perspective makes all the difference. It’s no longer about generic selling tactics but about creating meaningful connections that lead to sales naturally.

A Heartfelt Thank You for Supporting Your Art Matters
On a related note, I want to extend a massive thank you to everyone who supported my new book, Your Art Matters. The response has been overwhelming. Within 12 hours of its release, it hit the number one spot in the Business of Art category on Amazon! Your support means the world to me, whether you’ve bought one copy or participated in our Pay It Forward scheme, where people are leaving copies of the book with heartfelt messages in random places all around the world.
The Journey of Writing and Launching the Book
This book has been a labor of love, three and a half years in the making, and I’m thrilled that it’s finally out there, making a difference. I’ve been teaching the principles in this book for eight years, and I know firsthand how they can transform lives and careers.
As I prepare for the official in-person book launch event, I’m filled with gratitude and excitement. It’s going to be an emotional day, surrounded by people who have traveled from near and far to celebrate this milestone with me.
